Questions Our Team May Ask You
If you require a replacement hot water service, we require certain details from you.

How do I choose the right hot water service?
A Hot Water System Replacement Is Much More Than A Quick Like For Like Replacement
Hot water system replacement requires experience in knowing which system,
what size, what brand and what will fit. Whywait Plumbing Services have been specialists in advising on hot water system replacement as your local, reliable and professional Gold Coast Plumber for over 40 years, since 1976.
A hot water system replacement is not a quick like for like replacement, ever. If any plumber or electrician tells you it is then they are a misleading you and are simply a liar. When you replace an old leaking hot water system everyone involved with it is legally obligated to ensure the installation is compliant with the current installation standards.
There is no such thing as a like for like replacement when it comes to replacing any hot water system of any type in Queensland. As a licensed plumber we are obliged to install your new hot water system in compliance with the following:
- NCC 2015 – Plumbing Code of Australia
- AS/NZS 3500.4:2015 Plumbing and Drainage – Heated Water Services
- Plumbing and Drainage Act 2002
Also when replacing your hot water system it is notifiable work in the Standard Plumbing and Drainage Regulation 2003 which means Form 4 is required to be submitted to QBCC and a fee of $28.70 paid. Once Form 4 is lodged with QBCC the property owner must be sent a copy also which includes details of who undertook the work, where and when the work was performed and the type of work performed.
All of the above is the law and is legally enforceable. It is not a voluntary system that you can choose to opt in or opt out. Failure to obey the law in replacing your hot water system will usually null and void all insurance coverage as well.
The most common question asked when a hot water system fails is what will it cost to replace? In fact, online the most searched phrase is hot water system prices. Whilst this is an important consideration we at Whywait Plumbing know there are other factors just as important that need to be thought through.
Besides renovating your home replacing your hot water service is likely to be one of the major costs any household will face and is usually a situation that occurs with little warning. Unfortunately, this gives you little time to carefully review the available options unless you love cold showers.
With the cost of heating hot water ranking second in dollar spend to air-conditioning for household electricity costs it is imperative that you are well-informed before making a decision. Hot water systems are not all created equal and the choice you make today will be one that lasts for the next ten to fifteen years.
With a little help from Whywait’s Hot Water Specialists, you will be able to select the system that best suits your situation.
Off Peak Tariff
Does your current hot water service operate on an off peak electricity tariff?
Have you ever run out of hot water?
If you have ever run out of hot water this is a good indication you may need a larger hot water system than you currently have.
Are you concerned about installation costs or running costs?
Some hot water systems, whilst more expensive to install, are far more cost efficient in the long term. Think about whether you want to save on installation or on your ongoing costs.
