The City of Gold Coast manages and maintain the sewer up to the connection point with your property. This connection point is called the inspection opening, (IO) and any pipes or fittings upstream of this is your responsibility as the property owner as you can see in the diagram above.

It is important that as the property owner you maintain and keep the inspection shaft and Whywait Plumbing sewer inspection opening to surface or IOS in garden at property boundaryinspection opening to surface (IOS) accessible and uncovered at all times. If there is a blocked drain in your home, this is the first place that Whywait’s Plumbing Technicians will locate and open up to access your home’s sewage house drain infrastructure.

It is not recommended that you ever open up the lid on the inspection opening to surface as it is a live sewer connection.
